First Quantum Minerals is seeking an Environmental Officer to manage mine closure and environmental infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in environmental management, mining rehabilitation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Location: Kansanshi Mine, Solwezi, Zambia
  • Department: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)
  • Contract Type: Fixed Term
  • Reports To: ESG Manager
  • Direct Reports: Environmental Specialist (Waste Management)

Key Responsibilities

As an Environmental Officer, your responsibilities will include:
✔ Developing and implementing mine closure and rehabilitation plans.
✔ Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
✔ Coordinating infrastructure and landform changes with relevant departments.
✔ Preparing Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for closure-related projects.
✔ Updating costing reports for Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) and Environmental Protection Fund (EPF).
✔ Engaging with government agencies, environmental consultants, and local communities.
✔ Conducting environmental awareness and training programs.
✔ Overseeing project contract administration and risk management.
✔ Supporting the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS).

Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for this role, you should have:
✅ Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
✅ Experience: At least 5 years in construction or mining-related environmental projects.
✅ Technical Skills: Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, and other environmental modeling software.

Behavioral & Operational Requirements

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral).
  • Physical ability to conduct field assessments.
