Position Summary

Zambia Sugar Plc seeks highly motivated Environmental Officers to join the Estate Support Services Department. The Environmental Officers will ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability practices. The role involves environmental risk assessments, waste management, and implementing strategies to minimize pollution and optimize resource consumption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure operations adhere to environmental laws and regulations (air, water, waste, and land management).
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and submit regulatory reports to ZEMA, WARMA, NWASCO, and local authorities.
  • Environmental Risk Assessment: Identify potential environmental risks and implement mitigation measures.
  • Incident Management: Develop contingency plans and response procedures for environmental hazards.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Oversee air and water quality assessments, waste management, and energy tracking.
  • Audit & Compliance: Conduct regular environmental audits to ensure compliance.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Promote waste reduction, recycling, and resource optimization.
  • Wastewater & Hazardous Waste Management: Ensure proper treatment of wastewater and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Training & Awareness: Conduct employee training on waste management and sustainable practices.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster a culture of environmental responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Full Grade 12 Certificate and a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years in an environmental management role (factory or agriculture experience preferred).
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Excellent communication and report writing skills
    • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Additional Requirement: Qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
