Action Against Hunger USA manages operations in Zambia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Haiti, implementing both humanitarian and development initiatives.
Job Purpose
The Driver will be responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation services for the Zambia Country Office. This includes maintaining vehicles in top condition, ensuring compliance with road safety regulations, and supporting program operations through logistical assistance.
Key Responsibilities
🚗 Safe Driving & Transport Services
- Provide safe and timely transportation for staff and visitors as directed by the Support Services Manager.
- Drive both short and long distances, ensuring adherence to road regulations and safety protocols.
- Transport parcels, documents, and other materials between offices and relevant locations.
- Ensure that ACF vehicles are used strictly for official and authorized business.
🔧 Vehicle Maintenance & Safety
- Perform daily vehicle inspections to check fuel levels, brakes, tires, lights, wipers, and overall condition.
- Keep the vehicle clean, serviced, and roadworthy at all times.
- Monitor insurance and road licenses, ensuring all vehicle documentation is valid and up to date.
- Keep track of service schedules and notify the employer in advance when maintenance is due.
- Report any defects, accidents, or incidents immediately to the Supervisor.
📋 Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate vehicle logs, including mileage records, fuel usage, and maintenance history.
- Fill out necessary reports and forms related to vehicle operations and accidents.
- Ensure all vehicle documents are stored securely and available for inspection when needed.
⚠️ Safety & Compliance
- Follow strict safety procedures to protect passengers and cargo.
- Be alert and responsive to security concerns, especially when traveling in high-risk areas.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when transporting staff or sensitive materials.
Requirements
🎓 Education & Certification
✔ Advanced Driving Certificate
✔ Grade 12 Certificate (Pass Grade)
✔ Valid Driver’s License (Class C) with a clean driving record
🛠 Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role; prior work with an NGO or INGO is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and minor repairs.
- Proficiency in basic English (spoken and written).
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Trustworthy, responsible, and emotionally stable.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with diverse teams.

Working Conditions & Travel
- The position requires regular work attendance (at least five days a week).
- May require travel to field locations, including areas with basic living conditions or security risks.
