Location: Liuwa Plain National Park (LPNP)

Background

African Parks (AP) is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on responsibility for the long-term management of protected areas in partnership with governments and local communities. AP manages 23 protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Job Overview

To provide support to the Park Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring Liuwa Plain National Park applies the highest standards in General Works in order to facilitate the implementation of the Conservation Strategy.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Park Maintenance in their general tasks
  • Inform the supervisor of any problems, defects or non-conformities
  • Follow instructions specified in procedures
  • Perform the required maintenance work on equipment
  • Keep equipment clean and in good working condition
  • Verify the quality of work done
  • Maintain the workshop in a clean and orderly manner
  • Performs other related work as required

Required Skills and Competencies

  • General maintenance and labor tools, equipment and practices
  • Proven communication skills both Written and Verbal (English& Lozi)
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a solid team environment;
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees and supervisors
  • Ability to work efficiently
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions;
  • Ability to operate a variety of small hand tools.

Role requirements

  • High School Certificate required
  • Language: Fluent in Lozi and English (both spoken and written)
  • 1-2 years’ experience as a general worker, or equivalent
